The newest issue of GameInformer has revealed that the newest Arkham Batman game is Batman: Arkham Origins.
The game is not in development by UK based Rocksteady Games who created the critically acclaimed Batman: Arkham Asylum and Arkham City games, but is instead being developed by Warner Brothers Games Montreal. We had previously reported that Rocksteady were rumoredto be making the game but evidently this is not the case. Apparently Rocksteady have given Warner Brothers Montreal the full modified Unreal Engine that the team originally made for the first Arkham game. According to the magazine, Batman: Arkham Origins is set years before Batman: Arkham Asylum. It features a “young, unrefined” Batman as the protagonist, a far cry from the bad ass superhero master that is Arkham City’s Batman. Game Informer says that the Arkham Origins game will feature numerous people from Batman’s past that he will meet for the first time. The game will be released on the current generation games consoles, not next generation console as of yet, meaning a release for the Sony PlayStation 3, Xbox 360, PC and the Nintendo Wii U. See the announcement video below:
Thanks to Game Focus, we have had an additional game brought to our attention. Alongside the release of Batman: Arkham Origins, a handheld game called Batman: Arkham Origins Blackgate will be released. According to the website, the game is a 2.5D game in the style of Metoid games and will be released on the Nintendo 3DS and PlayStation Vita. The development of this game is not being done by Rocksteady or Warner Brothers Montreal but by Armature Studios who were previously responsible for Metal Gear Solid HD Collection on the PlayStation Vita.
It remains to be seen whether the quality of the game will line up with the quality of the two previous games, as Warner Brothers Montreal are a relatively new studio. Nevertheless both games will be released in October 25th 2013.
