Pac-Man Is Back

Yes, you read that headline correctly. One of the most iconic gaming figures of all time with the original arcade game spawning numerous sequels and even a cameo on Google one time (yeah, we all remember) is back with a new game by Namco Bandai. This time, the new Pac-Man game called Pac-Man and the Ghostly Adventures will be based on an upcoming television show by the same name.
The announcement was broken today with the release of a trailer and multiple screens. The set up for the story was detailed quite nicely for us by the company “The game revolves around the vibrant universe of Pac-World, where Pacworlders lived in peace until the mischievous Netherworld ghosts, led by their wicked leader Betrayus, escaped from their ghoulish domain to forcibly take control of Pac-World. Pac-World’s only hope lies in the last surviving yellow Pacworlder, our hero with a voracious appetite.” Sounds imaginative.

The graphics aren’t this good.
Carlson Choi, Vice President of Marketing and Digital Sales at Namco Bandai Games America, had this to say about the announcement: “The Pac-Man franchise has touched millions of gamers and non-gamers since its humble beginnings more than 30 years ago. With its long-standing history, Pac-Man and the Ghostly Adventures emerges as a new and re-imagined Pac-Man universe that still retains classic gameplay elements that will appeal to a whole new generation of gamers.”
The trailer is here for you to watch in complete and utter horror:
If this is sounding exciting for you, or hopefully more for for your children, the game will follow the exact same characters as the upcoming television show of the same name on Disney XD in the future. In case you were interested, the announcement says that the television show is “created and produced by Avi Arad, acclaimed director and founder of Marvel Studios.” Seems like a big step down for Mr. Arad’s career.
According to the announcement, the game will be available in Fall 2013 for North America and Winter 2013 for Europe. It will feature on the Xbox 360, PlayStation 3 and Wii U. There will also be an “exclusive side-scrolling version of the game” coming to Nintendo’s 3DS in Fall 2013.
Here are some screens from the game:
